Founded in 1925 as The Tutoring School of New York, The Beekman School has been a leader in individualized education for a century and counting. While much has changed over the course of 100 years, our mission has remained the same from the very beginning—to provide all students with a personalized learning experience that meets their unique needs and supports them on their journeys to becoming confident learners and well-rounded citizens. It was the driving force that inspired our founder and first head of school, George Matthew, to establish the institution in a series of converted apartments in Midtown East, only a few blocks from the cozy townhouse on 50th Street we call home today. And it has been a guidepost for us as we have kept the tradition alive over the decades.
