Discover the Top Private Micro-School in NYC

Micro-schools have been described as the 'reinvention of the one-room schoolhouse.' At The Beekman School, we pride ourselves on our small personalized classrooms, averaging 6 to 7 students, where each student has the opportunity to gain, apply, and share their knowledge. Located in the heart of Manhattan, our school is a welcoming and inclusive retreat for students in grades 9-12.

Our approach to the micro-school method gives students more opportunities to bring out their full academic potential by participating in class discussions, sharing experiences, and discovering common interests. It doesn't take long for new friendships to be formed too. There is a camaraderie within our student body that is unmistakable. Beekman students are encouraged to respect their school and honor their fellow students' unique opinions.

Personalized Learning through Micro-Education

Micro-education at Beekman means that the curriculum for each student is highly personalized. Prior to each semester, each student meets with an administrator to discuss specific goals. Following the conversation, a customized master schedule is created.

In addition to personalized education in the classroom, our Tutoring School offers virtually any course, at any pace, in a one-to-one setting. If students would like to change their schedule, at any time, our system allows schedules to be modified quickly and efficiently.

Micro-Schooling Prepares Students for College and Beyond

Our high school is designed to successfully transition students into a university environment and the world beyond, where the free exchange of ideas is not only encouraged but required. At Beekman, students are not segregated by grade levels. All of our students share the same student lounge, courses, electives, and are able to attend the same clubs and activities.

Our student body represents a diverse range of racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, geographic, religious, and political backgrounds. This variety of cultures fosters mutual respect and understanding that many students in other schools will not have the chance to experience.

Micro-schooling enables a comfortable, safe, environment for students to be themselves.  Our classroom learning experience holds no judgments and promotes an inclusive atmosphere. We encourage our students to mingle freely with one another outside the classroom too. This is evident in the student lounge at lunchtime, and heard during the warmer months when laughter fills the air of our outdoor garden.

We invite young men and women of all backgrounds to join our stimulating center for learning. Learn more about our private school's application and admission process here.
