The Tutoring School :: Mission and Program

The Tutoring School is a program within The Beekman School. Its mission is to provide a supportive environment in which students can realize their academic potential and achieve their educational goals.

This program can also educate students who require private or semi-private classes. Students who require such classes range from student actors or dancers who need to be out of school by the afternoon, students who want to accelerate and graduate early, those who wish to create an individualized honors program, students who need slight remediation in certain subjects as well as students who would like to take any type of Advanced Placement course.

In addition, The Tutoring School can provide students with challenging courses that are not usually offered in high school (i.e., Architecture in 15th century Europe, Portuguese, Literary Theory, Honors Studies in World Religions).

More Educational Choices

In addition to offering special classes to meet individual needs, students are also offered a place in Tutoring School courses when Beekman School courses have been filled. The Tutoring School has the ability to take a limited amount of students and give them the same courses (often with the same teachers) as The Beekman School. Since The Tutoring School is a program within The Beekman School, credit for Tutoring School courses is granted by The Beekman School. The Tutoring School program allows us to take in additional students and accomodate individual student requests. The Beekman School/Tutoring School can also run a late afternoon program when its day program becomes filled.

Sometimes students need to leave their school a few weeks before the year or semester ends. Often, these schools have asked us to see that their students complete specific course work. The Tutoring School can act as a proctor and see that this work is completed. In these cases, course credit must be granted by the student's school, not by The Beekman School.

SAT Prep, GED prep, home-schooling, as well as various types of tutorial sessions (i.e. homework help, course support) can also be arranged through The Tutoring School.
