The Beekman School Summer Session
Each year, The Beekman School runs a 32-day summer school program. For the school year ending in June of 2010, summer classes will begin on Tuesday, July 6th and end on Wednesday, August 18th. There are four 2-hour classes each day, and all classes meet, Monday through Thrusday for the entire six weeks of the summer session. First period begins at 8:30 a.m. and the last period of the day ends at 5:45 p.m. Upon completion of 32 days of a 2-hour course, students may earn a semester credit.
We offer all of the 9th, 10th, and 11th grade standard academic courses in history, English, science, and math. Students who attend our summer session can repeat coursework, accelerate their graduation by earning additional credits, or enrich their knowledge in a specific subject area.
The Tutoring School Summer Session
The Tutoring School also offers a summer session that follows the same dates and schedule as the larger Beekman School program. The difference between the two programs is that The Tutoring School can offer virtually any high school course, at any level. Courses are also available for 8th grade students who wish to prepare for the coming 9th grade year. Year-long courses can be taken through The Tutoring School as long as students complete 96 hours of coursework at school.
In addition, courses in The Tutoring School can be “capped” – i.e., guaranteed not to exceed 4 students (average class size is 2). Classes in organization / study skills and SAT preparation are also available.
The Mini-Session
For the school year ending in June of 2010, our Mini-Session begins on Monday, June 14th and ends on Friday, July 2nd. During this time, students may finalize coursework from the previous year, complete a marking period of work in a specific course (a total of 24 class hours), or arrange for special instruction for a myriad of unique situations. |
